Haimon in Antigone

Haimon in Antigone Sophocles Antigone tells a beautiful story of a woman who fights for her brother, Polynices, to be buried after her uncle and King, Creon, has declared that Polynices body will remain unburied for his blasphemy towards the state. For the culture this is dishonorable. Disobeying her uncle, Antigone goes ahead and buries her brother with miserable consequences. As characters are introduced to the plot, their purposes are clear, but one character may stand ambiguous in purpose; Antigones fiancà © Haimon for instance. But Haimon plays a very crucial role within the play, both conveying the true feelings of state and sympathizing with Antigones cause. Haimon as heir to the throne of Thebes remains very close with his father, but as fiancà © to Antigone, Haimon is torn as to advise his father whom he holds high. Therefore Haimons advisement starts timid: I cannot say [father] that you have reasoned badly. Yet there are men who can reason too; and their opinion might be helpful. Haimons clear drive to change his fathers mind is exhibited upon his first entrance in the play. You are not positioned to know everything says Haimon, for his father has stubbornly sentenced Antigone to be stoned to death, but Haimon is stern to tell of the countrys feelings towards the matter. I have heard them muttering and whispering in the dark about [Antigone.] They say no woman has ever, so unreasonably, died so shameful a death for a generous actthis is the way they talk out there in the city. Haimon clearly informs his father of the peoples disapproval of the Kings actions. Haimon serves as the only person to stand up to Creon. Clearly no resolution is brought about after the two have quarreled. But Haimon does in fact have a small effect on Creon, for Antigones sentence is changed for a much less demeaning one. Haimons presence is the only firm stand against Creons through the entire play. And this stand roots guilt within Creon that serves as motivation for the character. The final straw is pulled as the prophet Teiresias comes to Creon announcing his similar distaste, and bears a prophecy of tragedy. Creon is finally swayed to retract his horrible sentence but is too late, Antigone has killed herself, Haimon has killed himself, and Creons wife of the news kills herself. Everyone around Creon who had shared loved for one another have passed. And Haimons purpose is finally clear and digested.

What actions can you t ake to manage and eliminate distractions?The actions that I can to take to manage and eliminate distractions are: recording my favorite television shows for later playback, elimating distracting music, cooking/ eating dinner before beginning my homework, turning my telephone off and making sure that get the proper rest before sitting down to complete my assignments. 4. My personal learning style is somewhat complicated and complexed.I would say that my style is not structured because I really learn from doing. I am a very hands on learner so it is very challenging for me to understand just from reading/doing alone. I feel that my personal learning style can hinder my study habits because I am not in a classroom physically where I the instructor can demonstrate or teach in person. Whereas, I have to create ways for me to comprehend what I am learning myself. 5. The strategies that I will use are visual, musical, verbal, logic and interpersonal. Visually I can take notes and create charts and timelines that will assist me highlighting important points. Music- I will incorporate music with my learning by allowing myself to medicate on music that relax me before actually starting my assignments. Verbal- I plan to read and ask questions from others that will assist me in understaning the lesson as well as provide feedback to others.Logic- I fell that I use the logic strategy a lot. I always apply my assignments to my real-life situations in order to comprehend what I am learning better. Interpersonal- This is one I feel that I am not that good at but plan to do my best at. World War One (WWI) is an important event in history and impacted history in a great way for four years during 1914 to 1918. It is known as the â€Å"Great War† because the French, British, and Germans did not know there would be another world war in history. The events occurring through August and July of 1914 had catalysts to help the war build up its stockpile. The war was a conflict between the Allied Powers (France, Russia, Britain, Italy and the United States), and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire). The main causes of WWI was the rise in nationalism, which was very strong in Germany becoming a leading factor, economic imperialism, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 who was heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. In Germany, William II, the King of Prussia and emperor of Germany, was not a good leader, but he exhibited aggressiveness. The rise of German nationalism was exerting influence to the state during his ruling. During his reign, the Farmer’s League was organized in the 1890s, and they influenced farmers and the rural masses to mobilize against the Jews (they were jealous of the Jews and hated them due to racism and because they were successful with business enterprises). The Many Heroes Of our Day Heroes, since the time they were first written and recorded heroes have been the ones to set the example and uphold the morals and beliefs of the people. There have been, in general, three key ages of heroes: Anglo-Saxon Age, Middle age, and Modern age. They all have changed throughout time to fit the ways of the culture in each of their time period. The different characters that were written about, all went through different journeys and different quests according to what was considered entertainment during that age, but all kept the same basic morals, no matter the age. In the Anglo-Saxon age, the heroes were out for fame and glory; they wanted nothing more but to be remembered in fame, fortune, and their†¦show more content†¦These men ... were celebrated in song and story and ... presented again to the people so that they could participate in their magic (Bloomfield, p. 30). These heroes would die for their king and fulfill all their duties, setting great examples for their society to follow. People would gather to listen, be entertained, and also given a sense of hope. In Indo-European the word hero has the primary sense of protector or helper, but in Greek eroe it came to mean a superhuman or semi divine being whose special powers were put forth to save or help all mankind or a favored part of it (Bloomfield, p.27). A hero, even though the term was changed to superhuman or semi divine, still kept the same ethics in that they saved people. The name changed, the characters and how they were presented was changed, but the principles they up held were the same. It will never matter if it is two hundred B.C. or Twentieth century, heroes will always be ones to save, protect and give hope to people.
